About the Studio

The Creative Studio York is a vibrant and welcoming hub for anyone who loves clay! Owned and directed by ceramicist Sarah King, the studio supports a community of members who use the facilities regularly to create distinctive ceramic work. It also provides sessions to the public who want to try their hand at pottery, from hand-building and wheel throwing to animal sculptures.

At the heart of the studio are our regular weekly pre-booked sessions, held every Tuesday and Friday morning. These sessions provide an ideal opportunity for anyone wishing to explore working with clay, whether throwing on the wheel or developing hand-building techniques. The studio caters for all levels of experience, from complete beginners to advanced makers.
The space is fully equipped with five pottery wheels, generous work areas for hand-building, decorating, and glazing, and a relaxed yet professional environment that encourages creativity and skill development.

Our specialist workshops (available as half-day and full-day sessions) focus on ceramic sculpture, particularly animal forms. Participants learn the techniques required to create expressive sculptures ranging from foxes and hares to whales and Highland cows

You can view examples of members’ and workshop participants’ work on our Gallery page.
